Jan. 20, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette: Egg alert! For all animal lovers: when you shop in a grocery story for eggs, you may wish to be aware of cage-free chicken eggs.
They sound good, but not so. Those egg-laying hens are crowded tightly together inside a soiled holding area usually with feces and polluted air.
However, free range means they are laid by much happier hens. These hens are truly outdoors in clean air, and have space to run, hunt and peck.
The take-away is: reject “cage free” as deceptive and display kindness by purchasing “free range.”
