Food Safety, Security Topic Of Cyber Event

The AFCEA Shenandoah Rockbridge Chapter and The Advancement Foundation are holding a cyber social networking event on Thursday, March 6, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Virginia Innovation Accelerator at 245 W. 21st St., Buena Vista.

According to a spokesman for AFCEA (Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association), this event will focus on food and water security, as well as related cyber-security, including a discussion of recent national legislation on this topic and how it impacts the Virginia and the local community.

Featured speakers include Matt Lohr, the Virginia secretary of agriculture and forestry, discussing agriculture sustainability threats; Dr. Amy Nagy, lead biomedical research and development adviser for MITRE, discussing pest and pathogen threats; Col. David Garner, commander of Information Operations Support Center, 91st Cyber Brigade, Virginia National Guard, presenting on the protection of critical infrastructure; and Dr. Steve Hart, Virginia Farm Bureau board member, educator and local farmer, who will discuss “Food Security - Local and National Perspectives.” U.S. Sen. Mark Warner is providing a video message addressing legislative strategies and infrastructure threats.

The event will kick off at 6 p.m. with a brief introduction from event sponsors AFCEA and VIA followed by the speaker presentations. The panel discussion will last about 50 minutes and will be followed by a social hour providing an opportunity to network with speakers and attendees. Hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be provided.
