Weather or not? That is the question for birders who were sidelined in January and February for the past two monthly walks at Boxerwood.
Assuming the worst weather is behind us, Bird Club members will resume their second Saturday guided walks on March 8. Birders meet in the nature center parking lot (963 Ross Road) at 8:30 a.m. for a two-hour stroll through Boxerwood’s fields and forest. Bring binoculars and wear sturdy, muck-proof footwear. It’s a muddy time of year.
Participants will be listening and looking for species that have wintered in the region but will soon leave for breeding grounds further north. They’ll also be on the lookout for early migrants returning to breed in Rockbridge. With luck, birders may sight the resident Great-horned Owl already breeding in our area.
Walks are canceled for inclement weather or dangerous walking conditions. For more information, including an iffy weather update, visit the Rockbridge Bird Club on Facebook or at rockbridgebirdclub. org.
