Boxerwood Plans Volunteer Session

Boxerwood will host a spring information session on Monday, March 10, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the nature center and woodland garden for those interested in learning more about its volunteer programs.

The no-commitment session will introduce attendees to the history and mission of this local environmental education organization and offer an overview of three volunteer pathways. Organizers will highlight opportunities to tend the woodland garden; to help with outreach programs; and to strengthen community connections as Boxerwood ambassadors.

To accommodate different levels of skill, interest, and capacity for physical activity, each pathway offers volunteers a variety of ways to get involved, with support and training provided.

“In these challenging times Boxerwood needs help keeping our organization strong and productive,” said a spokesperson, noting the essential contributions of more than 40 volunteers already part of the effort. “What we hear,” she said, “is the work is not only useful, it’s fulfilling. A s m any of u s h ave discovered, Boxerwood is a fine place to get together for good.”

Volunteers working alongside staff is an essential part of how Boxerwood carries out its work, she said, noting the mission of the nonprofit is “to educate and inspire people of all ages to become environmentally successful stewards of the Earth.”

Now in its 25th year, Boxerwood advances this mission by maintaining a 15-acre garden open to the public, by providing award-winning school outreach programs, and by facilitating community-based conservation actions like treeplantings.

The March 10 information session will take place at the Boxerwood Lodge, with light refreshments served. The address is 963 Ross Road, Lexington. For more information or to register for the event, visit the Boxerwood website at boxerwood.org/volunteer.
