Collierstown

Deborah Potter McCormick, 540-463-7652

Cold temperatures and icy road conditions resulted in postponements and cancellations of church and other activities in the Collierstown community. The celebration of life for former Collierstown resident Janette Coleman scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 11, was postponed due to the inclement weather but will be rescheduled by the family.

Rockbridge CAN (Rockbridge Connect and Nourish) will provide a free community dinner today, Wednesday, Jan. 15, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Palmer Community Center. The meal will be professionally catered by Sushi Matsumoto and served dine-in style. Those needing transportation can call RATS at (540) 463-3346.

The Collierstown Presbyterian Women are scheduled to hold their winter meeting on Thursday, Jan. 16, at 6:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall weather permitting. Members are asked to check the church’s Facebook page for possible cancellation due to extreme cold conditions.

The annual Blanket Sunday campaign of the Collierstown Presbyterian Women will begin on Sunday, Jan. 19. Each year the PW partners with Church World Service to purchase and distribute blankets to needy individuals and families in the United States and around the world. The community is invited to join in this project by making a monetary donation or by gifting a friend with a contribution to Church World Service’s Blanket program in their name. The cost of a blanket is $10. Donations should be designated for Blanket Sunday and mailed to the Collierstown Presbyterian Church, 31 Church Drive, Lexington, VA 24450.

Information on upcoming events, visitors to the area, and other community happenings should be sent to 29 Desmac Lane, Lexington, VA, emailed to [email protected] or call (540) 463-7652 for inclusion in the Collierstown News.
