Buena Vista
At the Dec. 11 meeting of the Buena Vista City School Board, an ad hoc naming facilities committee reported that it had received an application to rename the Parry McCluer High School baseball field to Charlie Manuel Field, referring to the famed Philadelphia Phillies manager originally from Buena Vista.
They reported no issues with the application, describing it as “above and beyond.”
Superintendent Tony Francis announced that the Board will vote on the application at its next regular meeting on Jan. 23. The public are invited to make comments during the usual public comment period of the Board meeting.
Rockbridge
School Board OKs Calendar
At its Dec. 10 meeting, the Rockbridge County School Board voted to approve a finalized version of the 20252026 school year calendar.
Super intendent Phillip Thompson noted that it largely resembles the schedule of the ongoing school year. An early draft had been presented to the Board at its meeting in November, and since that meeting, some of the early release days were moved around so they don’t always fall on Wednesdays.
