PM Wrestlers Take Down Two

Stepping up against bigger schools, the Parry McCluer High School wrestling team defeated both Wilson Memorial and Broadway in a tri-meet last Wednesday at Wilson Memorial High School in Fishersville.

PM, a Class 1 school, was facing two Class 3 schools. The Fighting Blues defeated Wilson Memorial 54-30 and overcame Broadway 42-39.

In total, the Blues lost just two individual bouts and had to give up some points due to forfeits.

Proud of his wrestlers, PM head coach Jeremiah Brockenbrough said, “It’s always a great night when a small school takes it to the next level and beats the big ones.”

“We still have some kids wrestling out of their weight classes,” added Brockenbrough. “We’re wrestling pretty well.”

Brockenbrough was especially happy with junior Clyde Vassar, who “won two huge matches” at 138-pounds. Also stepping up after making the starting lineup in the 285-pound/heavyweight division was junior Timmy Lesher.

Tonight, Wednesday, the Blues will play host to nondistrict rivals Alleghany and Giles. The tri-meet will start at 6 p.m., with PM wrestling second and third. After Christmas, the Blues will travel to Lynchburg for the Battle for the Belts at Heritage High School next Friday and Saturday, Dec. 27 and 28, starting at 9 a.m. both days.
