Many thanks to all community residents who participated in the Rockbridge Christmas Basket packing day held at the Virginia Horse Center on Saturday, Dec. 7. Special thanks to those who delivered baskets to community families. The Effinger Ruritans appreciated the support that was extended to area friends and neighbors.

Also on Saturday, Santa was able to meet and visit the community’s children in the pavilion at the Collierstown Baptist Church. Special thanks to the Collierstown Baptist Church family for extending hospitality to Santa and to the community’s children. Thanks also to the Effinger Ruritan Club for sponsoring pictures with Santa courtesy of Bluegrass Photography. Community churches that sponsored Saturday’s event were the Collierstown Presbyterian and United Methodist churches along with Mt. Horeb United Methodist, Oxford Presbyterian, Rapps Mill Church, and Union View Advent Christian Church.

Lighting the Advent Candle of Peace at the Collierstown United Methodist Church on Sunday, Dec. 8, were Junior and Linda Painter. A Christmas Eve service will be held at 7 p.m. in the church sanctuary Peter and Jean Cook led the lighting the Advent Candle of Peace as a part of the 11 a.m. worship service at the Collierstown Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Dec. 8. On Tuesday, Dec. 17, the C&F Circle will hold its monthly meeting at 1:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Burr Datz will lead the group’s Bible study.

The Collierstown Presbyterian Church will hold its children’s Christmas program during the 11 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Dec. 22, in the church sanctuary. Light refreshments and a time of fellowship will follow in the church’s fellowship hall. The church’s Christmas Eve services will be held at 3 and 9 p.m. on Dec. 24.

The arrival of the Effinger Ruritan Club’s Community Birthday Calendars has been delayed. Club members hope to have the calendars to distribute in the next week and a half. T he Effinger Ruritan Club will hold its next meeting and holiday event at the Seclusion tomorrow, Thursday, Dec. 12.

The Effinger Volunteer Fire Department will host a Christmas dance on Saturday evening, Dec. 21, from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m. Music will be provided by The Worx. The doors will open at 8 p.m. Patrons must have tickets in hand for admission. The cost of a ticket is $25 per person and patrons must be 21 years old. Food and soft drinks will be sold. Tickets may be purchased by calling (540) 460-3980.
