Making clutch plays when needed, the Rockbridge County High School girls basketball team earned a 64-62 road win in double overtime over Waynesboro on Friday night.
After receiving a pass from Bella Dorey, Abby Bouchard used a screen by Claire Tyalor and hit a layup at the buzzer to lift the Wildcats (1-1) to victory in the nondistrict game.
Bouchard led RC with 21 points and 14 rebounds, while teammate Emma Clark scored 15 points, making back-to-back 3-pointers to force the first overtime. RC’s Des Butler hit a 3-pointer to force the second overtime. Butler and Dorey each scored eight points, and Dorey led the Wildcats with five steals.
The Wildcats will return to action on Monday with their Valley District opener at home against East Rockingham at Maury River Middle School, starting with junior varsity action at 5:30 p.m.
