Lighting the first candle of Advent this past Sunday at High Bridge Presbyterian Church were Donna Lotts and daughters Katherine, Caroline and Julie Ann.
Notice: there is a change of date for the children’s live nativity drive-thru Christmas program. It will be Saturday, Dec. 7, from 6 to 7 p.m. A donation of nonperishable food items for the local food pantry will be collected by the deacons at the end of the drive and is greatly appreciated.
Area visitors for Thanksgiving included Bill and Lea Braford’s extended family members Bob and Kathy Gilbert’s children Daniel and Hannah Gilbert of Denver, Colo. Also visiting were Kathy’s mother, sister and family members from North Carolina. Visiting Lloyd and Esther Pennington were Mark and Annie Pennington and grandson Max from Martinsburg, W.Va. Also visiting were Dianne Rakes and Chelsea Maiden of Salem. Helen Cash hosted dinner for 20 family members. Jerry and Dwinnie traveled to Waynesboro for Thanksgiving with their daughter Celine and husband Ron Reid and family. Jane Shafer’s family enjoyed the holiday with grandson Chris Shafer and family in from Georgia. Rob, Tracy and Cole Tackett traveled to Georgia to visit Rob’s family.
Also, children’s “noisy can” offering and food pantry offering will be collected during worship Sunday, Dec. 8. Also, there will be a congregational meeting.
Gladys Link, a church member who is receiving therapy at Kendal, celebrated her 95th birthday Thanksgiving day and Thanksgiving at a luncheon in Natural Bridge firehouse with family and friends.
The evening circle will meet Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 6 p.m. with Lea Braford.
The afternoon circle will meet Tuesday, Dec. 10, at 1 p.m. at the home of the late Audrey Armentrout.
The Advent season has begun at High Bridge, and “hanging of the greens” was accomplished during the week of Thanksgiving.
The Natural Bridge Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor a lighted “memory” Christmas tree at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15, at the fire department. There will be a $10 fee per memory light. Cookies and hot chocolate will be served after the event. Call (540) 570-0021 or ask any NBVFD member any questions you may have.
The Natural Bridge/Glasgow food pantry will open promptly at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, and close at 11 a.m. The High Bridge congregation is collecting canned sweet potatoes, vegetables and fruits for the food pantry during the month of December.
