The annual Christmas dinner at the Palmer Community Center will be held on Sunday, Dec. 1, beginning at 5 p.m. A time of fellowship and the singing of favorite Christmas carols will follow the evening meal. Community residents are invited to attend and to bring a favorite side dish, salad or dessert to share. The main entrée and beverages will be provided. The event is sponsored by the Palmer Community Center and the Effinger Ruritan Club.
The Collierstown Presbyterian Night Circle will hold its next meeting on Thursday, Dec. 5, in the fellowship hall at 7 p.m. A light supper in the church kitchen will begin at 6:30 p.m. followed by the Bible study. Jeanne Staton will lead the study on “A Heart of Hospitality” from Psalm 146. All women are invited to join the group in person or on Facebook Live.
The Rockbridge Christmas Basket packing day will be held on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 8 a.m. until noon at the Virginia Horse Center. Community members are being asked to assist with the packing of Christmas Baskets for needy individuals and families. Effinger Ruritans will deliver baskets to recipients following the packing event.
Santa will be coming to Collierstown to visit boys and girls in the pavilion at the Collierstown Baptist Church located at 3926 Collierstown Road on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 2 until 3:30 p.m. Santa’s visit is being hosted by the community’s seven churches ‑ Collierstown Baptist, Presbyterian, United Methodist, Mt. Horeb United Methodist, Oxford Presbyterian, Rapps Mill and Union View Advent Christian. Children will be able to drop off letters to Santa, talk with Santa, and have their pictures taken with him. The Effinger Ruritan Club will sponsor pictures with Santa courtesy of Bluegrass Photography. Don’t miss the opportunity to experience some holiday fun!
The Effinger Ruritan Club will hold its next meeting and holiday event at the Seclusion on Thursday, Dec. 12.
The Effinger Volunteer Fire Department will host a Christmas dance on Saturday evening, Dec. 21, from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m. Music will be provided by The Worx. The doors will open at 8. Patrons must have tickets in hand for admission. The cost of a ticket is $25 per person and patrons must be 21 years old. Food, soft drinks and ice will be sold. Tickets may be purchased by calling (540) 4603980.
