A new play, “A Lexington Christmas,” will be performed next month at the Gillis Theater on the campus of the Virginia Military Institute. Performances are at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, and Saturday, Dec. 7. There is also a 2 p.m. matinee on Dec. 7.
Ticket information can be found at www.rockbridgetheater. com/shows.
The play, written and directed by Brent Hanson, tells the story of a father and his teenage son who discover a homeless woman in their downtown Lexington home. The fictional father and son are played by real-life father and son, Woody and Jaxon Johnson. The cast also includes locals Celeste Jenkins, Lily Johnson, Kim Hirt, Sam Hirt, and Laurel Hofer. The play is produced by Blue Forest Theatre.
Writer/director Hanson said, “The play offers a heart-felt start to the holiday season. Although not a musical, it includes several charming Christmas carols that will be new to Rockbridge audiences. The songs were written by American composer William F. Robinson.”
Hanson continued, “Audiences will laugh and perhaps shed a few tears at this frankly sentimental holiday story, designed to touch and lift the entire family while savoring the Christmas spirit.”
