Wildcats Advance To Regional Semis By Outlasting East Rockingham, 3-2

For the second time this week, the Rockbridge County High School volleyball team pulled off an upset in the Region 3C tournament, earning a 3-2 road win over East Rockingham on Wednesday night in Elkton.

The 11th-seeded Wildcats (12-10), who had lost both regular-season matches to third-seeded ER (20-4), won the first two sets before the Eagles came back to tie the match 2-2. RC then edged ER in the fifth set to win 25-18, 25-19, 16-25, 17-25, 15-12.

The Wildcats advanced to the Region 3C semifinals to face second-seeded Alleghany (23-3) on Monday at 6:30 p.m. Covington, with the winner qualifying for the Class 3 state tournament. The two teams met in the first two weeks of the season, with the Cougars winning 3-0 both times. With a 3-0 win over 10th-seeded Brookville on Wednesday night, Alleghany extended its winning streak to 12 matches.
