Northern Lights Return

An extreme geomagnetic storm brought the Northern Lights to many areas across the U.S., including Rockbridge County, late last week. While, at most, only a glow was visible to the naked eye, cell phone cameras and “regular” cameras captured the rich colors. This shot was taken by Mary Woodson from her home in Fairfield last Thursday after 10 p.m. Sky searchers this week may be able to catch a glimpse of a comet just after sunset.
