June 19, 1974

The building and lot at 7 S. Randolph where the children’s clinic used to be became the property of First National Bank.

--- The Rockbridge County Public Service Authority voted unanimously to supply water and sewer facilities to the site of the proposed Kennametal plant.

--- The downtown Lexington children’s clothing store formerly know as Jack and Jill became Jill’s a Lady, specializing in women’s wear.

20 Years Ago

June 23, 2004

Lexington City Council unanimously approved an increase in the city’s lodging tax from 4 to 6%. The additional 2 percent was designated to reduce the Virginia Horse Center’s capital improvement debts.

--- Mike Irvine was sworn in as a judge in the 25th Judicial Circuit at the Rockbridge County Courthouse.

--- Heavy rains caused flooding in the Kerrs Creek area and forced the evacuation of one family living along Muddy Lane. Buena Vista also experienced some minor flooding.
