May 22, 1974

An armed man from Phoenix, Ariz., forced the owner of McCrum’s Drug Store in Lexington and a cashier at the counter to hand over $357 and a box full of narcotics. - Plans for a new manufacturing facility in Rockbridge County near Lexington were announced by Kennametal Inc., a Pennsylvania manufacturer of powder metallurgy products utilizing tungsten carbide. - Miss Maggie Flint and Mrs. James Lunsford of Brownsburg were both struck by the same bolt of lightning during a violent electrical storm.

Lexington City Council unanimously voted to override three Architectural Review Board decisions, paving the way for a new courts facility on Main Street. - The Architectural Review Board approved the demolition of the old firehouse on Jefferson Street to make way for additional parking. - Rockbridge County High School placed first for wind ensemble in a music competition in Orlando, Fla. They also placed first for jazz ensemble in the open class jazz division.
