April 29, 2024 Editor, The News-Gazette: The Maury River Alliance forum on April 16 was very successful and we wish to recognize those who made it possible: primarily, Rockbridge Conservation which supports our initiative, the state government officials from DEQ, DCR and DWR who attended and participated, the many elected local officials who attended, the Rockbridge Baths Volunteer Fire Department for use of its facility, and MRA volunteers who helped with all the tasks involved.
Most of all, we appreciate the more than 130 residents who signed in and indicated their concern. For some, it was standing room only. Our intuition that residents were interested in protecting the river from the constant deposition of sediment from Lake Merriweather was confirmed.
Our thanks to everyone for participating in this important effort to protect and preserve our River.
There will be a recording available and plans are already underway for what’s needed next. If your readers wish to stay informed or to participate, please contact info@mauryriveralliance. org. SANDRA STUART MRA steering committee, project leader
