Ireland Photographs Coming To Nelson Gallery

Ireland comes alive through the lens of Norfolk photographer Glen Mc-Clure at Nelson Gallery in May.

He has spent over two decades capturing the stark, moody images of Ireland, and the results are fascinating. With tripod balanced on his shoulder, the journey has taken him down narrow roads, into small villages and high atop bluffs. He shoots whatever catches his eye.

McClure began as a commercial photographer in Norfolk. Then in 1998 he set up a mobile studio outside his office in Norfolk and took portraits of the people passing by. That led to a show at the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art in Virginia Beach, and his reputation soared, which led to a show at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond.

Since then he has written and illustrated and over nine books of his work.

An opening reception will be held on May 3 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Nelson Gallery.
