PM Girls Net Three Wins

The Parry McCluer High School girls tennis team won all three of its matches last week, while the Rockbridge County girls dropped three matches.

Improving to 5-1, the Fighting Blues started the week by earning a 5-4 home win over Alleghany (1-7) on Monday at the Southern Virginia University Courts.

“Great win today,” said PM head coach Alyssa Sewell.

The PM coach praised McKenna Hickman winning a tough battle at No. 4 singles, 8-4, before teaming up with Elizabeth Truslow to win 8-5 at No. 3 doubles.

The Blues then captured a 7-2 road win over Nelson County (3-5) on Tuesday of last week before earning a 7-2 home win over Pioneer District rival Narrows (1-5 overall, 0-2 district).

With the win over the Green Wave, the Blues improved to 3-0 in the district and completed a sweep of the regular-season series with Narrows. When the teams met at Narrows on March 27, PM won 6-3.

Playing three days in a row against Valley District rivals, RC (2-5 overall, 0-5 district) suffered an 8-1 road loss to East Rockingham (5-5, 2-4) last Wednesday before losing to Turner Ashby (7-2, 3-2) at home 7-2 on Thursday and falling 9-0 at Broadway (5-5, 2-4) on Friday when the Wildcats were missing three of their top eight players.

Stepping up for the Wildcats were Addie Wright and Ava Crocker, who teamed up to win doubles matches against ER and TA.

PM was scheduled to play host to Nelson County yesterday and will have a home match against Bland County today, Wednesday, at 5 p.m. before playing host to Mountain View on Friday at 4:30 p.m. The Blues will than play a district match at Bath County on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

The Wildcats were slated to play host to ER yesterday and will have a home match against Harrisonburg today, Wednesday, before playing at Harrisonburg on Friday, starting at 4:30 p.m. on both days.
