Cline Voted Against Acts That Are Helping State

April 19, 2024 Editor, The News-Gazette: I am writing to express my deep disappointment in Representative Ben Cline for voting against the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that is bringing numerous benefits to Virginia. In a time when our state is in dire need of upgrades and improvements, it is shocking to see our own representative opposing such crucial legislation.

The benefits for Virginia from this law are immense and the impact on our state’s infrastructure will be significant. Some of the key benefits include $400 million for airport upgrades, $1.2 million for transit system upgrades, $7.7 billion for bridges, highways, and electric vehicle charging stations, $578 million to restore bridges in poor condition, and at least $100 million to bring broadband to more Virginians. These investments will not only improve our infrastructure but also create jobs and stimulate economic growth.

In addition, Representative Cline voted against the American Rescue Act which is currently helping to fund Buena Vista City Council’s reconfiguration of the district courtroom along with a $300,000 grant for Rockbridge Conservation to assist low-income homeowners repair or replace well and septic systems in Rockbridge County.

It is disheartening to see Representative Cline once again putting his own political agenda ahead of the needs of his constituents. Virginia deserves a representative who prioritizes the well-being of our state and is willing to work across party lines for the greater good.

I urge my fellow citizens to elect Ken Mitchell, a representative who will put the interests of Virginia first, not solely the interests of his political party. We cannot afford to allow more of the same from Ben Cline. We need an independent thinker, one with integrity, wisdom, and experience. Someone willing to work across the isle and someone who supports our democratic norms.

REV. SUSAN WORRELL Rockbridge County
