Newly Unveiled

City, state and Historic Lexington Foundation officials unveiled two new historical markers and a cemetery interpretive panel last Thursday. This photo is from the first ceremony outside the Lexington Visitor Center where the state highway marker commemorating Lexington’s connections to the “Negro Motorists Green Book” was dedicated. HLF President Dee Joyce-Hayes (left) and LaToya Gray-Sparks, community outreach coordinator for the Virginia Department of Historic Resources, stand with the newly unveiled sign. In the second and third ceremonies last Thursday, the revised and relocated state historical marker for the city’s original African American cemetery and the interpretive panel at Evergreen Cemetery were unveiled. For photos of those events, see page B12. (Joseph Haney photo)
