RC Girls Soccer Shuts Out Harrisonburg, 4-0

Tuesday, April 23 – The Rockbridge County High School girls soccer team earned its second win a row with a 4-0 home victory over Valley District rival Harrisonburg on Monday night in Lexington.

Madelyn Jones, who led RC with two goals, kicked off the scoring for the Wildcats (2-4-0 overall, 2-2-0 district). Shortly after that, Lydia Kendall extended RC’s lead to 2-0 by converting a penalty kick. Lucy Boller-Pinkham scored a goal from the right corner into the top left of the net, securing a 3-0 halftime lead.

The Blue Streaks (3-3-0, 3-2-0) emerged from halftime with greater aggression and moved the ball into their offensive territory for much of the second half. Just 16 minutes remained when Jones struck again to score the final goal of the game on an assisted from Sofia Smith.

RC goalkeeper Sophia Perlozzo made 12 saves, while the Wildcats took 13 shots on Harrisonburg’s goal.

Proud of his team, RC head coach Danny Wheeler credited the win to the team’s sharpened speed and communication skills honed in practice.

The Wildcats will continue district action tonight, Tuesday, when they play host to East Rockingham (0-8-1, 0-5-1), starting with junior varsity action at 5:30 p.m.
