Public Works Crews Praised For Clearing Downed Tree

March 25, 2024 Editor, The News-Gazette: We would like to thank our wonderful Lexington Public Works Department for their quick response to our neighborhood emergency on Tuesday, March 20.

It was the afternoon of a brief windstorm which blew a huge tree down across the roads at the entrance to our neighborhood. It pulled down power lines with it. We live on Overhill Drive, behind Waddell School, and have only one route into our neighborhood. With the roads blocked, there was no way for any emergency ambulance or firetrucks to reach our homes, should they have been needed during that time period (luckily none were needed).

The electric company cleared the lines from the tree branches so our public works crew could cut up the tree to open up the roads. Within two hours the roads were open. They, however, stayed on into the early evening continuing to clean up. They then returned the next morning to complete cleanup of the cut branches, including sweeping the streets. So congratulations to our public works crew for keeping us safe and a job well done. JANIE RICHTER Lexington
