PM Postseason Honors Accorded

Two Parry McCluer High School volleyball players earned all-region honors last week, while 15 PM football players received all-district honors.

Two Parry McCluer High School volleyball players earned all-region honors last week, while 15 PM football players received all-district honors.

For the volleyball team, which went 9-10 under second-year head coach Jessie Moala, senior outside hitter Sydney Mahaffey and sophomore middle hitter Kadence Zollman were named to the all-region second team. The Fighting Blues had the second-best record in the Pioneer District during the regular season and finished third in the district tournament before concluding their season with a 3-0 loss at state champion Auburn in the Region 1C quarterfinals.

For the football team, which went 6-5 overall and 2-2 in the Pioneer District under first-year head coach Jeremiah Brockenbrough, 10 players earned all-district first team honors. The Blues ended their season with a 45-20 loss at George Wythe in the Region 1C quarterfinals.

Sophomore Rayshan Richardson was named to the a ll-district fi rst t eam offense and defense as a lineman, while senior JJ Jones was selected to the all-district first team offense as both a wide receiver and a kick returner, and Jones was selected to the all-district second team defense as defensive back and a punt returner. Junior Jackson Brockenbrough was named to the all-district first team offense as a running back and to the all-district second team defense as a linebacker. Senior Cole Chittum was selected to the all-district first team offense as a lineman, while senior Parker Camden was chosen to the a ll-district fi rst t eam defense as a linebacker. Also named to the alldistrict first team defense were sophomore Jacob Shafer as an all-purpose player, sophomore Nathan Glass as an all-purpose player, and senior Landon Catlett as a defensive back. Catlett was selected to the all-district second team offense as a tight end, and Glass was chosen as a quarterback.

Senior Aaron Pruett was named to the all-district second team offense as a wide receiver and to the all-district second team defense as an all-purpose player, while sophomore Griffin Harlow was chosen to the all-district second team offense as a lineman. Other alldistrict second team defense selections were senior Shaiden Ratcliffe as a linebacker and junior Braden Conley as a lineman.

Blues receiving honorable mention were senior wide receiver and defensive back Anthony Gonzalez, senior defensive end and offensive guard Zack Mook and freshman center Tyler Chittum.
