Oct. 23, 2026 Editor, The News-Gazette: We write in support of the candidacies of David Sigler for mayor of Lexington or, in the alternative, for the continuation of his seat on City Council.
First, with respect to City Council, David has a lengthy record of service on that body during which he has performed in exemplary fashion, listening to arguments supporting or opposing proposals before the Council, while paying particular attention to the voices of the citizens.
With respect to his candidacy for the permanent position of mayor, he has demonstrated his outstanding fitness for that position. As we know, he was appointed to the position of interim mayor after the death of then Mayor Frank Friedman. Perhaps the most important characteristic of a leader is how that person will react in emergency events. David demonstrated his outstanding ability in such a situation following the severe storm that struck several parts of Lexington on Sept. 4. Immediately following the storm, he walked through the city, viewing the substantial damage and led the city’s public works and other departments in recovering from the damage.
In our opinion, a vote for David Sigler will ensure that the city of Lexington will continue to be in good and capable hands.
