Spooky Season Activities Readied

It’s here – the most haunted time of the year.

And this weekend, all of the little ghosts, witches and super heroes have their choice of three community events over three days to chose from at which to get their candy and engage in other fun activities.

In Glasgow

Glasgow kicks off the long Halloween weekend with a trunk-or-treat on Thursday.

The Glasgow Lifesaving and First Aid Crew is sponsoring the event, its first, at the Locher Pavilion from 5 to 8 p.m.

Those who wish to set up should do so between 4 and 5 p.m. No vehicles will be allowed in the event area once it begins. Bring canned foods for a free hot dog meal. There will be a costume contest, and awards for the best decorated trunk.

In Lexington

Downtown Lexington trick-or-treating, presented by Main Street Lexington, is set for Friday, from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

It is taking place on Friday, say organizers, due to Halloween falling on a weekend.

Children 12 and under, along with their parents or guardians, are invited to participate in this annual Halloween tradition. The afternoon will feature sidewalk trick-or-treating and live entertainment.

The entertainment schedule begins at 4 p.m. with the Skeleton Dance at the corner of Main Street and Nelson Street. Down the block on Main Street in front of Courthouse Square, Rockbridge Ballet and Halestone Dance Studio will both perform between 4:15 and 4:45 p.m.

As a safety precaution, the central downtown streets will be closed to vehicular traffic to allow the safe passage of the little ones. Closed from 3:15 to 5:15 p.m. will be Main Street from Preston Street to Henry Street; Washington Street from Randolph Street to Jefferson Street; and Nelson Street from Randolph to Jefferson. Members of the Lexington Police Department will be on hand to help direct the flow of pedestrians. Caution while driving is urged.

In Buena Vista

Main Street Buena Vista invites the community to celebrate Halloween at Spooktacular on Saturday from 3 to 7 p.m. on Magnolia Avenue in downtown Buena Vista.

Families can enjoy downtown trick-or-treating and join the costume fun. Judges will be walking around downtown and handing out “WOW tickets,” redeemable for downtown gift cards, in three costume categories: - Best-Dressed Family, for families who go all out together; - Most Creative, for imaginative costumes and ideas.

- And Overall Awesome, for costumes and family spirit that make the judges say “wow.”

Visitors can also enjoy the decorated golf carts and watch the golf cart parade. Participants should line up at 5 p.m. for judging before the parade begins at 5:15 p.m. The golf cart contest will also award downtown gift cards. Golf carts owners can sign up at mainstreetbuenavista.org.

A $5 cornhole competition, as a MSBV fundraiser, will give players a chance to compete on brand-new, competitiongrade boards.

Main Street Buena Vista is especially interested in vendors with family friendly spooky or seasonal offerings. Vendors interested in setting up a street booth can email cont a c t@ mainst r eetbuenavista.org or visit mainstreetbuenavista.org.
