Currently the longest-serving member of Goshen Town Council, Chris Robertson is running for his fourth full term in this year’s election. He was first appointed to Council in 2011 to fill another member’s unexpired term and was elected to his first full term in 2014. He has since been reelected twice, first in 2018 and again in 2022.
A lifelong resident of Goshen and a longtime member of the town’s fire department, Robertson told The News-Gazette that he decided to run for another term because “I love helping the community [and] I want to try to make everything better for the community.”
During Robertson’s tenure on Council, the town has worked to replace several of its aged water lines and has established a new town hall on Maury River Road.
“Right now, we’re going forward with trying to make [that building] bigger so we can get some more stuff in the town,” Robertson said, referencing the planned community center that is being designed as an extension of the current town hall building. “And we’ve done quite a bit with our water lines as far as upgrading them, and we’re still trying to improve more of them every day.”
If elected to another term, Robertson hopes to continue working on the projects the town has underway, continue upgrading the town’s waterlines and work to improve the town in whatever ways he can.
“I’m hoping we get the rest of our water lines back up to par, where they should be, and get our park established for the kids with the walking trails for the adults and everything,” he said. “And get the addition on our town hall, and hopefully the preschool will go in there and maybe a doctor’s office or something like that to come in to help the elderly people in our community.
“We’re trying to get done what we’ve got started so far,” he added. “When we get that done, that’ll open up the door for other projects we could do to make our community better and bigger.”
Robertson hopes that people will vote for him to help Goshen continue to be improved, not just for current residents, but for future residents as well.
“I’m doing my all to try and help the community,” he said. “I’m trying to look out for the future for the town. We have a lot of younger generations that are coming in, and [we’re] trying to get it ready for them.”
