A Buena Vista mother of two was seriously injured in a multi-car crash on Rte. 60 last week, family members said.
Lindsay Zimbro was one of three people hurt in the crash, which happened in front of the Poplar Hill Exxon on the morning of Tuesday, October 20.
The accident involved at least two cars and a dump truck hauling a trailer, photos from witnesses showed.
The other victims have not been identified and it’s unclear if anyone is facing any charges.
Zimbro was airlifted to the hospital in Roanoke and has undergone several surgeries for abdominal injuries, her sister, Hannah Edwards, told The News-Gazette.
Edwards said Zimbro’s seatbelt ultimately saved her life, but she is facing a long road to recovery.
“I know there are at least two more surgeries planned on top of physical therapy,” Edwards said. “She’s going to be out of work for awhile.”
Edwards said bright sunlight at that time of the morning may have contributed to the crash.
The family has set up a GoFundMe account to help with medical expenses and caring for Zimbro’s children two children, 16-year-old Holden and 10-year-old Everleigh.
“Her list of injuries are long and serious. Her stay in the hospital will be long and the road after, even longer,” family members wrote on GoFundMe. “As one could imagine, this is going to cause a hard financial burden on Lindsay and her family. There will be medical bills, travel, food, and many other unknowns at this time but we do know that they will need all the help we can give them.”
Edwards described her sister as a devoted mom who is lucky to have a big support network in the area to help her recover.
“She’s a great friend and an amazing sister,” Edwards said. “She would help anybody.”
Edwards said Zimbro’s children have been able to visit her and that cards and donations to the GoFundMe are appreciated. So far, the community has contributed more than $6,000.
“It’s nice to see the outpour from the community for her,” Edwards said.
