Main Street BV Awarded Signage Grant

Main Street Buena Vista has been awarded a $9,000 Downtown Investment Grant for downtown wayfinding and discovery signage from the Virginia Department Of Housing and Community Development.

The grant is among $615,000 in Virginia Main Street Grants to revitalize historic commercial districts across 22 communities that were awarded last week, according to a press release from Gov. Abigail Spanberger’s office.

“This is delightful news for us and certainly a signal of the real momentum we have underneath us right now,” said Jen Carpenter, MSBV executive director. “We are unbelievably grateful that DHCD has taken the time to consider and accept our proposal. I look forward to working with the city as we execute this grant project by adding additional discovery signage throughout downtown and the surrounding areas, further connecting downtown to other amazing amenities in Buena Vista, especially Glen Maury Park.”

“We’re thrilled that the governor‘s office has seen the value in investing in our downtown,” said Tyson Cooper, MSBV board president. “And we look forward to the partnership with DHCD to complete this project.” He said the grant “is an acknowledgment of the hard work and investment made by so many over the last several years into improving our downtown.”

“Revitalizing our main streets means supporting small businesses and thriving communities in every corner of the commonwealth,” said Spanberger. “Local public improvements are integral to creating safer and healthier communities, new jobs and a more affordable future. Walkable, vibrant and unique downtowns are central to attracting businesses, encouraging tourism, and revitalizing communities where Virginians want to live and work.”
