Oct. 16, 2026 Editor, The News-Gazette: A central tactic of Ben Cline’s campaign portrays Beth Macy as a socialist who would allow the government to control our lives. Yet this accusation raises an interesting contradiction.
Cline himself supports government intervention in one of the most personal decisions a woman can make — whether to have a child. He also supports Social Security, a government program that provides essential financial support to millions of Americans.
Supporting government programs and regulations does not make one a socialist. The real question is whether those policies serve the public. Beth Macy’s policies reflect her experience with the people of our district and her desire to improve the quality of life for everyone. FRANK SETTLE Lexington
