Kerr Unopposed In Bid For BV Council
Having been appointed to a vacancy on Buena Vista City Council earlier in the year, William “Hotdog” Kerr is running unopposed in a special election to serve out the remaining one year of an unexpired term. Kerr was appointed in February to fill the seat formerly held by Steve Webb, who resigned midway through a four-year term.
Born and raised in Buena Vista, Kerr said he’s “proud to call this community home.” He graduated from Parry Mc-Cluer High School in 1977 and continued his education at then-Dabney S. Lancaster Community College.
“I spent many years working in our family business, The Carpet Outlet, from 1976 to 2010, and have worked at Bolling, Grose and Lotts Funeral home since 2010,” he said. “These experiences have given me a strong appreciation for hard work, service and the importance of being there for people during both good times and difficult ones.
“I am one of the founding members of the Parry Mc-Cluer Athletic Booster Club. We help support the athletes through the sale of clothing and school spirit items at home, football and basketball games.” He is also a member of the Paxton House Historical Society.
He has been married for 41 years to his wife Lisa, who serves on the Buena Vista School Board. Their family includes two children and five grandchildren. “Family and community have always been at the heart of my life,” he said.
In seeking to continue serving on City Council, Kerr commented, “I am committed to helping keep Buena Vista a safe, welcoming and thriving community. I believe in listening to our residents, respecting their concerns and working together to make thoughtful decisions for our city’s future.
“Buena Vista is my home, and I care deeply about its future. I [am] honored to serve our community on City Council.”
