MEET THE 2026 SIXTH DISTRICT HOUSE CANDIDATES

Cline Defends Advocacy Of Trump Policies

“Throughout my eight years in Congress,” said U.S. Rep. Ben Cline, “I have stayed steadfast in my commitment to the people of Virginia’s Sixth District, voting at every turn to secure our border, restore law and order, protect Americans, lower taxes, defend our Constitutional rights and lower health care costs.

“One of the first bills I introduced in Congress was the Small Business Reorganization Act, signed into law on Aug. 23, 2019. This bill simplified the bankruptcy process to help more small businesses keep their doors open, their employees on payroll and their suppliers paid. Since then, I have built upon this legislation to increase that aid to Main Street by introducing the bipartisan COVID–19 Bankruptcy Relief Extension Act of 2021, signed into law on March 27, 2021, and the Bankruptcy Threshold Adjustment Act of 2026, which recently passed in both the House and the Senate with bipartisan support. I was proud to support the Working Families Tax Cuts last year to stop the highest tax increase in American history and put more back in your pockets. As a member of the Appropriations Committee, I have fought to lower spending and delivered results for Virginia’s farmers through the Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, which passed the House on June 4, 2026.”

If he’s reelected, Cline says his top priorities over the next two years “are to keep fighting for the people of Virginia’s Sixth District. I will keep working to keep our communities safer, ensure our veterans receive the benefits they deserve, help our farmers get what they need to succeed and help American families keep more of their hard-earned money. I will continue to fight to reform health care, lower spending in Washington, and reduce waste, fraud and abuse in the federal government.”

He said he fully supports the current administration’s immigration policies and the practices of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). “Thanks to the Trump administration and House Republicans, the border is closed, but our communities and families are still at risk. Under Biden, over 11 million illegal immigrants walked freely across the open border. Because of Gov. Spanberger and Democrats’ sanctuary policies, dangerous, criminal illegal aliens have been allowed to commit crimes and not face consequences. Our families and communities deserve to feel safe. I introduced the 287(g) Cooperation Act, which would strengthen federal, state and local immigration- enforcement partnerships to ensure communities have the resources and tools necessary to keep dangerous individuals off our streets.”

A supporter of Trump’s war in Iran, Cline said, “We must come to a swift resolution in Iran that protects Americans, lowers gas prices and ensures Iran never has a nuclear weapon. For decades, the Iranian regime has fueled terrorism, pursued nuclear capabilities and put American lives and our allies at risk. The United States must stand firm against these threats and safeguard our national security.”

Asked to assess the current state of the economy, Cline said, “The high cost of living remains one of the biggest challenges facing Virginia’s Sixth District. While inflation has eased from the historic highs under the previous administration, families and small businesses are still feeling the squeeze. We must rein in reckless government spending, root out fraud and abuse in federal programs, and roll back excessive regulations that are driving up costs and hurting small businesses. These steps are critical to lowering inflation, easing the financial burden on working families, and strengthening our local economy.”

Asked his thoughts on data centers, Cline said, “Protecting the character and quality of life of rural Virginia communities remains a top priority. I oppose data centers in rural areas and support local leaders, including those in Frederick County, who have taken steps to restrict new development. At the federal level, I am working to ensure communities have the information, protections and transparency they need before these projects move forward, particularly when it comes to electricity costs, water resources, and the impact on taxpayers. I cosponsored the Ratepayer Protection Act (H.R. 9340), which passed the House with overwhelming bipartisan support. This legislation would require state electric utility regulators to consider adopting rules that make data centers pay the full cost of the required energy infrastructure upgrades, rather than passing those expenses on to hardworking families and small businesses.”

Cline, who grew up in Rockbridge County, attended and graduated from Lexington High School, has been in public office for 25 years, having served in the Virginia General Assembly prior to his election to Congress. He says he has “fought consistently to deliver common sense solutions” to the constituents he represents.

“My record in public service is clear. I have worked to secure the border, restore law and order, lower taxes, defend our Constitutional rights, fight waste, fraud, and abuse, reform our healthcare system, ensure our veterans have access to the benefits they deserve, and lower the costs of medicine. This Congress, I introduced the Skinny Labels, Big Savings Act, which would lower prescription drug costs by protecting generic drug makers from excessive lawsuits and preserving patient access to affordable medications. I also introduced the Veterans Entrepreneurship Act, which would allow veterans the opportunity to pursue their small business aspirations by giving them access to federal resources. My office has closed nearly 13,000 cases for the Sixth District, helping them resolve issues with federal agencies and returning over $23 million back to constituents.”
