7 p.m. – Screening and presentation on the movie “Sounder,” Straws in downtown Buena Vista, opening event for Mountain Days.

7:30 p.m. – Benefit concert reading of “Treasure Island,” Performing Arts Center, SVU, free but reservations required.

Saturday, Oct. 10

10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.‒ Library book sale, Rockbridge Regional Library.

10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Mountain Day in downtown Buena Vista, arts, crafts, food vendors, demonstrations, live music, dancing, local history, children’s activities.

11 a.m. – Barbecue chicken sales, halves $7, dinners $12 (includes two sides, applesauce and roll), Buena Vista Fire Department, at the firehouse, last chicken cooking of the year; raffle tickets also available for $10 each, with the drawing held on Oct. 17.

1 p.m. – Blessing of the Badges, hosted by the Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office and Ben Salem Church, part of National Faith & Blue Weekend, at the church.

Sunday, Oct. 11

2 to 5 p.m. – Community Gospel Sing, at Magnolia Square in Buena Vista, concluding event of Mountain Days celebration.

Monday, Oct. 12

5:30 to 8 p.m. – Parents’ Night Out at New Monmouth Presbyterian Church, drop your children off for a night of crafts, games, pizza and a story about the love of Jesus, ages 11 and under; reserve places by emailing janeenwelsh8@gmail. com by Oct. 9 with their ages and phone number.

7 p.m. – Free showing of the film “Waitress,” at Project Horizon’s Mullen Gathering Place pavilion, gathering starts at 6:30 p.m., bring a cooler (no alcoholic beverages), popcorn provided, part of Project Horizon’s observance of October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Saturday, Oct. 17 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. ‒ Fall festival, Timber Ridge Presbyterian Church.

11 a.m. to 4 p.m. – Thunder Bridge fall open studio tour, featuring 20 resident artists and guests, with baked goods and coffee available, 1425 Arnolds Valley Road, Natural Bridge Station.

4:30 p.m. - Harvest Dinner, at the Buena Vista Fire Department; choice of ham, turkey or both; dinners are $18 for two meats or $16 for one meat and include stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, baked apples, brown beans, roll, dessert and drink; annual raffle drawing will also be held during the dinner.
