The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recalled packages of frozen blueberries sold at Walmart over concerns about E. coli contamination.
On Oct. 2, the FDA said Great Value frozen organic blueberries in 30 states including Virginia that may have been exposed to Escherichia coli.
E. coli can cause severe stomach cramps, diarrhea (which may be bloody), and vomiting. Most people recover, but some infections may result in a serious complication known as hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), particularly in young children, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems, according to the FDA.
The packages included in the recall are Great Value Organic Triple Berry Blend 10 OZ (Including Strawberries, Blackberries and Blueberries), Great Value Organic Blueberries 10 OZ and Trader Joe’s Organic Mixed Berry Blend 12 OZ.
The FDA is advising anyone who bought the packages to throw them away or bring them back to Walmart or Trader Joe’s for a full refund.
