A total of 78 quilts were on display during the annual quilt show at the Rockbridge Regional Fair sponsored by the Rockbridge Piecemakers Quilt Guild.
That number included 62 in the show itself and 16 “challenge” entries centered around the 250th birthday of America.
Sandy Davis won Best in Show with her “Shenandoah Valley Botanical.”
The Best Use of Color award went to Linda Puhle for her “Optical Illusion.” Ann Gruner won Best Hand Quilting for her “Blue Rhapsody.” Judge’s Choice went to Laura Orrison for her “Grandmother’s Flower Garden.” Best Custom Quilting was won by Cathy Henderson for her “Kate’s Garden Gate,” and Viewers Choice was “Big Hooter” by Linda Wilder.
The show judge this year was Lisa Alley of Winston-Salem, N.C.
For the first time, the show included vendors Grandmother’s Thimble quilt shop and Snazzy Beads Boutique, as well as Guild members Deborah Gudelsky, Hope Bird and Mary Beth Baker, selling handmade items.
The show had 555 visitors between the Thursday evening and Saturday night of the fair. The raffle quilt was won by Murphy Wilson of Lexington.
