Among the trees that fell during the Sept. 4 storm in Lexington was a southern red oak on the front elevation of the Kappa Alpha national administrative office at Mulberry Hill off Nelson Street near the athletic fields of Washington and Lee University.
The tree is believed to be more than 230 years old, which would make it at least a little older than the house itself. Mulberry Hill dates from 1801.
“This beautiful, heritage Oak may be gone, but will be remembered fondly in Mulberry Hill history,” the Kappa Alpha Order posted on its Facebook page.
