In a nine-hole nondistrict match, the Rockbridge County High School golf team lost to Turner Ashby on Thursday evening at Lakeview Golf Course in Harrisonburg.
TA won on its home course, recording a team score of 160, while the Wildcats shot a 176.
Leading RC was junior Davis Welsh, firing a 40 on the challenging nine-hole, par-36 course.
Senior Finbar Looney shot a 42 for the Wildcats’ second score, while sophomore Brody Grue and junior Tanner Hickman each carded a 47 to complete the Wildcats’ team scoring. Also competing for the Wildcats were sophomore Parker Flint (49), junior Hendrick Colvin (57) and senior Miles Holland (58).
The Wildcats were scheduled to play an 18-hole Shenandoah District match at Ingleside Golf Resort in Staunton on Monday and will play their final 18-hole district match next Monday at 9 a.m. at The Club of Staunton. The top two teams from the district, RC and Waynesboro, and the top two individuals outside of those teams, will advance to the Region 3C tournament.
Assessing his team’s progress, RC head coach Garret Huffman said, “Everyone continues to work hard as we try to make a push to make it to regionals as a team. Time to finish the season strong.”
