Sept. 2, 2026 Editor, The News-Gazette: I’m concerned about reports that the USPS is moving forward with restrictive rules for mail-in ballots. Given the uncertainty surrounding mail-in ballots, I hope that all local (and all Virginia) registered voters will take advantage of the amazing 45 days of early voting in Virginia to vote in person if they can! Early voting starts Sept. 18. It doesn’t take long to vote and it’s very easy!
Folks can check their registration before they vote to make sure that their registration is current (a good idea), at www.elections. virginia.gov and click on the “Citizen Portal” button on that page.
And if a resident is not yet registered, they can easily do that online (same website as above) or in person. The last day to register to be able to vote a “normal” ballot is Oct. 23 by 5 p.m. If someone registers Oct. 24 or later, they’ll just vote a provisional ballot.
Please vote early and in person. SHANNON SPENCER Lexington
