The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Rockbridge County until 9 p.m.
The NWS said strong to severe storms are possible this afternoon and evening. Damaging wind gusts, possible tornadoes and hail are the primary hazards and heavy rainfall may lead to some flash flooding. Hail could be up to the size of a ping-pong ball, according to the NWS.
Severe storms are also possible Saturday afternoon.
Much of the state is under a severe thunderstorm watch this evening as we head into Labor Day weekend.
