PM Eighth Of 32 At Relays

The Parry McCluer High School boys cross country team opened the season eighth of 32 teams at the Blacksburg Relays on Saturday at Blacksburg High School.

In the relays, four different runners each ran 2 kilometers for a combined total of 8 kilometers. For PM, Sam Carpenter, Sebastian George, Matthew Cooper and Kebryl Chandler teamed up to finish in 25 minutes, 54.21 seconds. Pacers Homeschool won the race in 23:49.75.

Going over the race, PM head coach Chris Poluikis said, ”Because it is our seventh year there, I can usually gauge from past years on how we look. But this year the course was a bit shorter, so it’s hard to get a good read on it.

“ It’s a t ough c ourse t o begin with, and with the shorter distance and weather factors it’s really hard to find that comparison this year,” he added.

Competing in the open race for the Blues were sophomore Seven Medina, a first-year varsity runner, and sophomore Victor Poluikis. Medina placed 24th of 32 harriers in the 2K race, finishing in 8:13.9. Poluikis crossed in 31st in 8:31.8.

The Wildcats will have this week and next week to prepare for their next meet, the Knights Crossing Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 12 at Green Hill Park in Salem, the location of this year’s Class 1 state meet.
