The Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office has a new officer – and he’s got paws!
K9 Dasty, a certified explosives detection canine, has partnered with Fairfield Elementary School Resource Deputy Oliver Schriver. The six-year-old German Shepherd was gifted to Rockbridge County by the State Department and will ork with Schriver to enhance public
“Fortunately, we do not need an explosives detection canine every day. However, when one is needed, it can sometimes take several hours for a specialized team to arrive,” the sheriff’s office said. “With K9 Dasty now serving locally, that response time has been reduced from hours to minutes.”
The Sheriff’s Office said K9 Dasty will help address any public safety concerns at the county’s 12 public school and four colleges.
Late last month, Fairfield Elementary students had the chance to meet K9 Dasty, learn about his mission, and even spend a little time getting to know him.
"K9 Dasty has already spent years serving our nation, and we are honored that his next mission is serving the citizens, schools, and visitors of Rockbridge County and Lexington City," said Sheriff Tony McFaddin. "His presence enhances our ability to keep our community safe, and we're excited to have him as part of our team."
