On Wednesday, Aug. 12, RCHS welcomed back approximately 848 students to school. Joining the new class of freshman, RCHS also introduced several new classes, including Sports Marketing, Social Media Marketing, Foundations of Business and Marketing, Agribusiness Management, and plumbing. Plumbing is offered off-campus at the Mountain Gateway Community College Buena Vista Center.
RCHS also added new staff members, including English teacher Elizabeth Kiem, history teacher Philip Shapiro, physical education teacher Sydney Phillips, and special education teachers Mollie Calomeris, Zac Singleton and Reneda McKnight.
The Athletics Department filled a year-long athletic trainer vacancy with Elissa Marchand.
After seasons of wear and tear, the Prasnicki-Ross stadium is receiving a brand new turf field. The process started in May, and the field is taking shape. The new field will be ready for the cross county rivalry game against Parry McCluer this Friday, Aug. 28. The new field is the only high school in the state of Virginia to feature AstroTurf. This new turf means that rain will not impact games, and players will be able to use the field through the year. The turf is also designed to be more durable and provide a consistent playing surface for athletes. ...
