A tractor-trailer fire snarled traffic at the Fairfield exit on I-81 Thursday morning.
The fire broke out around 7:45 a.m. Multiple units were sent to help put out the flames. It's unclear if the driver was hurt.
According to Virginia 511, multiple lanes were initially shut down but the incident has since been contained to the right shoulder. Traffic was backed up for at least three miles.
A member of Facebook group Fairfield, VA -- what's happening posted a photo of the truck's cab fully engulfed in flames. It's not clear what sparked the fire or when the shoulder will reopen.
