Aug. 14, 2026 Editor, The News-Gazette: I attended Tuesday night’s Town Council meeting, and I left feeling disappointed and concerned about how citizens were treated and how our questions were handled.
Citizens came to the meeting expecting answers to questions that had been raised at the previous month’s meeting. Unfortunately, we were told that the town manager had the answers and that we would need to wait until the next meeting. This was frustrating because we had already been told that our questions from the previous meeting would be answered this month.
During the meeting, I also witnessed a Council member yell at a citizen and another Council member yell at a fellow council member. The mayor repeatedly hit the gavel while citizens were demanding answers and trying to be heard.
I believe our town government should be a place where citizens can ask questions, receive timely answers, and be treated with respect. Disagreements are going to happen, but everyone involved — citizens, Council members, the mayor, and town staff — should be treated professionally and respectfully.
I am asking our elected officials to take these concerns seriously and to hold our town government accountable. We deserve transparency, communication, and stability from the people we elected to represent us.
Our town belongs to its citizens, and our voices deserve to be heard.
