Meet The New Rockbridge County Teachers

Rockbridge County Public Schools is welcoming 27 new teachers to its ranks this year, a number of whom are natives of Rockbridge County.

At Central

Lynnsey Oswald is a new first-year pre-K teacher at Central Elementary School. The Albion, Mich., native went to Southern Virginia University and previously worked as a teacher’s assistant for Rockbridge County Public Schools.

Alyssa Sewell, joined CES to teach second grade. Sewell is from Granite Bay, Calif., and previously worked for Buena Vista City Public Schools. She has four years of teaching experience and graduated from Southern Virginia University.

Kendall Huffman is also a new first-year second grade teacher. Huffman is a Rockbridge County native and studied at Liberty University. She worked as a student teacher in Lynchburg.

Megan Feldman, a Lexington native and first-year teacher, is a new special education teacher at CES. She attended Brigham Young University and worked as a student teacher in Fairfax County.

Sydney Evans is a first-year fifth grade teacher at CES. She grew up in Rockbridge Baths, studied at Radford University and was a student teacher in Roanoke City Schools.

At Natural Bridge

Kiara Salvador is a first-year teacher who joined Natural Bridge Elementary School as an early childhood special education teacher. Salvador is from Queens, N.Y., and attended Radford University.

Phynely Stores is a new second- grade teacher at NBES. She graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University and has taught for a year. She was born and raised in Rockbridge County.

Brittany Duncan, who has seven years of teaching experience, joined NBES as a fifth grade teacher. She grew up in Rockbridge County and attended the University of Central Florida.

Devon Goerlich is a new school counselor at MRMS. Goerlich studied at James Madison University, interned in Winchester, and is originally from Nazareth, Penn.

Lindsay Stutsman will bring 12 years of experience to NBES as a special education teacher. She previously worked with Rockbridge County Public Schools, attended Radford University and is from Franklin County.

At Fairfield

Emmaline Wilbur, of Glen Allen, joined Fairfield Elementary School as a first-year first grade teacher. She attended Longwood University and previously worked as a student teacher at Fairfield.

Amelia Bane joins FES as first-year special education teacher. Bane is from Rockbridge County and attended Mary Baldwin University. She previously worked as a teaching assistant at Central Elementary.

At Mountain View

Angelica Sanders joined Mountain View Elementary as a first-year music teacher. Sanders is from Rockbridge County and attended Bridgewater College. She was a student teacher at John C. Myers Elementary School in Broadway.

Hannah Hutcherson is a first-year media specialist this year at MVES. She is originally from Lynchburg, went to the University of Alabama and spent time teaching English in Japan.

At MRMS

Eric Krepps brings 24 years of teaching experience to Maury River Middle School, where he is a seventh grade math teacher. Krepps is from Coopersville, Mich., and taught for 10 years in Arizona and 14 years in Texas. He attended Lake Superior State University.

Jennifer Bushnell also joined MRMS as a seventh grade math teacher. A first-year teacher, Bushnell is from New Jersey and Pennsylvania and attended Western Governor’s University. She has years of experience as a substitute teacher.

Laura DeSilvey joins MRMS as a seventh grade English teacher. The first-year teacher grew up in Roanoke and Bedford and attended the iteach program.

Rebecca Marsh is a firstyear seventh grade civics teacher. Marsh grew up in a military family and lived in Virginia, Rhode Island, Japan, Washington, D.C., and California before attending Roanoke College.

Triniti Stores joins MRMS as a first-year eighth grade science teacher. Originally from Rockbridge County, Stores went to Southern Virginia University and worked as a behavioral interventionist teaching assistant with Buena Vista City Public Schools.

Sara Mumbauer has four years of teaching experience and is new to MRMS as an English as a Second Language teacher. She is from Waynesboro and Mount Sidney and attended Eastern Mennonite University.

Meredith Lawhorn is a new first-year special education teacher at MRMS. She is from Lexington and previously worked at Shenandoah Preschool.

At RCHS

Elizabeth Kiem, originally from Lexington, has joined Rockbridge County High School as an English teacher. She has seven years of experience teaching in England.

Dylan Hostetter is also a new member of the English faculty at RCHS. Hostetter grew up in Rockbridge County, attended Virginia Commonwealth University and has a year of experience substituting for Rockbridge County Public Schools.

Breanna Burden, who has been teaching for year, joined RCHS as an earth science teacher. She is from a military family and attended the University of Virginia at Wise.

Zac Singleton is a first-year special education teacher this year at RCHS. He’s from Beulaville, N.C., and attended Northern Arizona State University.

Mollie Calomeris, of Washington, D.C., also joined RCHS as a special education teacher. She previously worked as a paraprofessional for six years.

Sydney Phillips is a firstyear teacher of physical education who was born in Rockbridge County.
