Grant Aleksander, a Washington and Lee University alumnus and long-time cast member of the TV soap opera, “Guiding Light,” is appearing in a new play, “Devout,” Aug. 27-30 at the ShenArts Community Theater in Staunton.
Rob Mish, a Rockbridge area resident, W&L alum and retired director of the Lenfest Center who most recently portrayed Benjamin Franklin in a Virginia Military Institute theater production of “1776” in April, is the stage manager for the play.
This special production by playwright Sherry Wright, Aleksander’s wife, is being presented as benefit performances supporting ShenanArts Community Theater to strengthen and sustain the region's vibrant performing arts community.
“Devout” explores the emotional journey of two brothers brought together by the declining health of their aging father. Long-buried resentments and conflicting ideas force the brothers to confront not only each other, but also the meaning of devotion, loyalty, and love. Through humor, heartbreak and hope, the play offers a deeply human look at the challenges many families face as their parents age.
