The paintings and assemblages by Lenny-Lyons Bruno in the current exhibition at Nelson Gallery are eclectic, tactile and thought-provoking. Some are images of bed sheets hanging on a clothes line, others are of children’s dolls that offer friendly comfort and a bit of nostalgia. The show, which opened Aug. 7, is a collection of her paintings and assemblages that are sometimes fun, sometimes profound and sometimes just a simple comment on the beauty in found objects. She grew up in a small coal mining town in West Virginia. From a young age she had an urge to create and was drawn to objects that were old, rusty, soft, muted, textured, or just interesting. Her work has been recognized and shown in many shows and national competitions and won awards.
