Items Sought For BV Time Capsule

The Paxton House Historical Society is putting together a time capsule that will be buried as part of the upcoming Labor Day festivities at Glen Maury Park.

As many readers may recall, City Council on July 4 of this year unearthed a time capsule that had been buried as part of the Bicentennial celebration back in 1976. Linda Flint, president of the Paxton House Historical Society, has been asked to gather items for the next time capsule that will be buried on Labor Day and opened in 2076, the 300th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

At this time, a smaller capsule is planned so items that are small in size are requested.  Some examples which have been collected include a penny, an ornament depicting the Paxton House, a flash drive to contain historic resources and artistic renderings of the city’s public schools.

The requested deadline to donate items is Friday, Aug. 21. To make arrangements to donate items or discuss this project further, contact the Paxton House Historical Society at (540) 404-1831 or email [email protected].
