Richard Furman will be featured for the month of August in “The Grain,” a collection of new work in wood, at Artists in Cahoots in Lexington.
The opening reception will be Friday, Aug. 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. Furman’s collection includes a hand-turned etched bowl, a walking cane, and charcuterie boards, among other items. The star of his month-long display is a coffee table that features a single center-cut slab of red oak, detail elements of red cherry, and white oak used for the uniquely designed undercarriage elements. The show’s title is inspired by the grain pattern of the coffee table’s top.
Furman has been a member of Artist in Cahoots for three years. He taught “shop classes” for 34 years at James River High School, Botetourt County, until he retired in 2013.
