Lexington’s delegate to the National Democratic Convention in New York City, Patricia DeLaney, referred to her four-day dip into national politics as “spectacular.” She also praised the convention for nominating Jimmy Carter for President and Carter for choosing Walter Mondale as his running mate. - Dr. Robert S. Munger, who had practiced medicine in the area for 35 years, announced his plans to retire on his 65th birthday in November. - The Beehive, a diverse business operation in Buena Vista involving antique dealers, craftsmen, and an artist, was doing well according to owner Mrs. John McElroy. It was located on Beech Avenue in the old Chittum building across from the Buena Vista Foundry.

Susan Showalter, president of the Rockbridge Regional Fair board, put the odds of the fair’s survival at 50 percent following a week of severe storms that brought drenching rains and flashes of lightning almost every night of the fair. - Edith Vosburgh, president- elect of the Lexington Downtown Development Association, called the LDDA “a tired organization” at a meeting of the Social and Economic Services Committee. Many downtown merchants were questioning LDDA’s efficacy.
- The independent film “Beowulf: Prince of the Geats” was being filmed in the area.
